Pull 4

Pull 4
A ceramic double candle holder made from black clay with black glaze and a blue inset.
Artist: Binda Colbrook
About the Pull Candle Holder
Created using a gentle but decisive action, these ceramic sculptures are a visual imprint of a two-handed grasp and pull motion.
Evoking the ritualistic power of sun bleached bones and forest remnants, the Pull Candle Holder remembers the sacrum - the “sacred” bone, the “holy” bone, home of the chakra associated with emotions, creativity and sexuality.
Coupled with the act of burning a candle, the Pull candle holder takes on an inherently feminine, mystical power.
“Each Pull subject I made came out a little bit different even though they all began with the same sized lump of clay. Each imprint considers the inside of a felt and psychological experience, and the outside resulting expression of the hollows where the hands were. In each result there is an invitation to shift focus to the thing that is not there.”

About the artist
Binda Colebrook is an artist and a psychotherapist. Her art practice has shifted in the last two years. She recognized that a lot of work prior to the pandemic year of 2020 was grief work, stuck in a repetitive exploration and expression of suffering and hurt.
The slowing down that 2020 invited led Binda to read more, go out into the woods more and engage with nature more. What she found along the way was the power of connection to Self, and to our planet, the mother of us all.
Binda now puts her energy into finding the center within and encouraging others to do the same. She does that by making work that invites the opening of the sensory gates to the metaphysical background.
